The landscape may not change much but new contenders for the region highlight a region that any top team can take.

Gruver and Wellington lose key standouts respectively, leaving the door open for potentially new blood, but both teams will remain to be teams to watch.

Panhandle look to be a safe pick to win the region, with a core of the team returning but New Home are a rising stock type of team that you definitely will want to watch this year.

Coming off a sold regional tournament run, the Lady Leopards add Peyton Connor, a 6-2 center from Sterling City that will add a new threat offensively and a solid inside-out game.

Sudan will be a sleeper pick to watch with all-state guard Stevi Lockhart returning for her senior year.

Roscoe may be the better team to keep an eye on in the southern half of the region as they return the core of last year’s team that advanced to the area round for the second straight year.

Three tough districts

5-2A

New Home and Ropes headline the district but Sundown and Plains add depth to a district that could see an interesting finish to seeding in the playoff picture. Post is also a team to not overlook as they could sneak in a win against the top teams.

2-2A

Wellington are a solid pick but Clarendon do return a solid amount to make a match into the district title picture. Quanah, a Region II team from last year, come in the district and will be a tough team to beat.

4-2A

Sudan are the pick to claim the district title early but, the rest of the field looks evenly-matched on paper. Anyone from the rest of the field looks to be a solid pick for a playoff spot but Floydada will be playing a sleeper role. Lockney do return the top two scoring leaders on the team in Adriana Villarreal and Mariah Asensio as they look to be a sleeper pick in the district race.
