Quanah make a splash hire

Quanah approves Matt Garrett as new head GBB coach, TXHSGBB confirmed on Saturday night. Garrett will be moving closer to family, as daughter Mason is playing golf at Midwestern State.

For Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, the position that is now vacant will not be filled by external candidates as the school district is under a hiring freeze.

Other moves across the state

Mansfield also opened as Kenni Patton will be returning home to Electra, where she was a graduate in 1999. Patton led the Mansfield High program for 15 years as she looks to give Electra a jolt to return to the statewide picture.

Lexington officially came open earlier this week as Andrew Spencer will not be returning to the helm for the 2021-22 season. Spencer led the Lady Eagles to a regional final appearance for the first time since 2004.

Crawford will be looking to Brent Elmore as he will be coaching both the boys’ and girls’ side at Crawford. Former coach Brandon Ely will be moving to a teaching only role in the school district.

In 1A, Rochelle is filled as Westin Wilhelm, a former assistant at Dublin, will be taking over the helm. The Lady Hornets missed out on the playoffs this past season.

Friendswood’s Daron Scott will be stepping down from his position with the Lady Mustang program but will still remain at Friendswood High School.

In East Texas, Henderson is open as Kristen LeShaw will not be returning to her post next season.

On Friday, TXHSGBB sources confirmed to us that Ralls’ Michael Humphrey leaves his post to take over at 1A Roby. Ralls made their first playoff appearance since the 2010-11 season.

Sources also confirmed to TXHSGBB that Fort Bend Elkins was also open, marking the second job in Fort Bend ISD this week.
