Westbrook 51, Veribest 45

The matchup game for Westbrook looked to be in their advantage but second chance points were key.

The Lady Cats used their size and their ability to crash the offensive boards to earn their first regional final berth in school history with a 51-45 victory over last year’s regional champions, Veribest.

Reagan Hale led the team in scoring with 12 points. Shea Payne added 10 and Bailey Connell pitched in nine points for the Lady Cats.

Rankin 49, Hermleigh 36

The Lady Devils were not ready for their season to end.

Rankin used a 29-4 run in the final stages of the game, engineered by Emily Bunger, and giving Rankin the second regional final appearance in three season.s

Hermleigh stretched their lead by 12 in the third quarter with a Brittany Smith long-range shot that seemed to be a dagger.

Rankin did not quit.

The Lady Devils rode a 6-0 run to start the fourth and after splitting a pair of free throws, the game saw itself tied at 34.

Hermleigh struggled with the full court pressure of the Lady Devils in the winding stages of the game, which gave more opportunities for Rankin to stretch their lead.

Rankin will face-off against Westbrook at 8 p.m., Tuesday at Abilene Wylie High School for a chance for either team to continue their historic run in the postseason.
