The coaching carousel in the girls basketball world has started to spin and hires are soon to file in. Here are the headlines from across the girls basketball world in Texas.

Granbury’s Schmidt to retire

The Granbury job came open yesterday as Steve Schmidt will retire at the end of the school year. Schmidt succeeded the winning coach in girls basketball history in Leta Andrews, who had 1,416 career wins. Schmidt held a 445-331 career record. The Lady Pirates last playoff appearance was in 2014 under Andrews.

Livingston Kevin Hurley announces retirement

Minutes after the Granbury job opening, Livingston also came open with the announcement of the retirement of Kevin Hurley, via Livingston girls basketball team twitter account. Livingston has been overshadowed in Southeast Texas with the Lady Lions being in 5A for awhile. After a 31-10 mark this season, Livingston have been making their mark in Southeast Texas and aim to do more in the future.

TBC SQT schedule set

A total of 23 girls state qualifying tournaments are on the calendar for the road to the Texas Basketball Championships, one of the bigger years the tournament has had in terms of SQTs. SQT tournaments tip-off in Colleyville Heritage on April 6 and will continue every weekend until June 15. The state tournament is schedule for June 20-22 in the Grapevine area.
