Former Levelland coach Bontrager returns to the hardwood

Former Levelland boys’ basketball coach Jeff Bontrager will return to the hardwood, but not in the Lubbock area.

Bontrager announced on Twitter that he has accepted the girls’ basketball job at Westbrook, located 79 miles west of Abilene on interstate 20.

The Levelland legend has a state appearance under his belt in his 37 years of coaching.

Westbrook lose a key player in Miranda Goswick in the post and will look to find the next player to fill the shoes.

Haskell’s Eddleman moves to Andrews

Big Country continued to be the epicenter of the West Texas movement on Friday.

Haskell coach Blake Eddleman announced he will be taking an assistant volleyball and assistant girls basketball jobs at Andrews.

The move is behind the fact that Eddleman wants to spend more time with family.

Bridgeport’s Taylor to take Justin Northwest job

In a shock move for many fans in Bridgeport, Bridgeport coach Dallas Taylor announced that she has taken the job at Justin Northwest.

Taylor was the head girls basketball coach at Bridgeport for eight years, with a regional semifinal appearance for the Sissies this past season.

Justin Northwest was a sub -.500 team last year despite being in the playoff race in 8-5A.

Duncanville interview process well underway

The most prominent job in the state in Duncanville has commenced interviews last week and interviews are well-underway. As you may recall, Cathy Self-Morgan resigned due to recruiting allegations against her in order to bring a player in from San Antonio.  The UIL state executive committee officially ruled that Self-Morgan was guilty of recruiting a player to the team and was given three years’ probation along with having to show up to the state executive committee in order to coach again. The program was given two years’ probation.

TBC season nears

The Texas Basketball Championships state qualifying tournaments (SQTs) are drawing close, despite two tournaments having to fold due to the lack of entrants.

Chireno is scheduled for the weekend on April 27 as Glen Rose is slated for April 28, with reported to have three entrants for their SQT.
