McAllen Memorial make historyÂ
McAllen Memorial have been a perennial power in the Valley but getting over the hump that is the area round eluded them to a deep postseason run.Â
In 2021, the drought ended.Â
The Lady Mustangs recorded a 40-34 victory over Flour Bluff, with the defense playing a huge key, as they rose a 15-0 run in the second quarter. McAllen Memorial will face Corpus Christi Veteran’s Memorial with details to be determined. Â

Sundown’s Legan earns career win No. 500Â
Sundown are making regional playoff runs more of a tradition as the Roughettes picked up a 52-43 victory over Forsan in Seminole. The wait will begin for the one seed from 5-2A in the regional quarterfinals as McCamey and Roscoe have yet to play their bi-district game that is scheduled for 6:15 p.m., Friday in Big Spring. New Home await the winner of this game, which is scheduled to play on 2 p.m., Saturday at the same venue.Â
Ettes dethrone 2A defending state championsÂ
There’s solid defense, and then there is Panhandle defense. Â
The Ettes’ defense was key as Tarleton signee Mason Jones recorded a game high 30 points, as Panhandle topped the reigning 2A state champions, 58-43, in a regional quarterfinal game in Pampa.Â
Panhandle never trailed in the game as they built a 17-3 lead after one quarter of play and forcing Gruver to play from behind. Â
Gruver’s Bailey Maupin, a highly-touted recruit that is receiving Division I looks, had a team high 15 points. Â
Friday’s games to watch Â
A total of 24 games across the state will take place, barring any morning postponements, as the playoffs resume after games were at a halt due to the winter weather.Â
Seminole vs. Hereford; 6 p.m., Rip Griffin Center, LubbockÂ
For updates, follow @Nick_TXHSGBB via Twitter.Â
It’s a clash of styles between the two teams, as Seminole will be looking to run the floor and establishing a fast tempo to start the game. Hereford are a physical team that can score in the interior and have size and length defensively. Â
How can the Lady Whitefaces handle the speed of Seminole and what can Hereford do to force Seminole to settle in offensively? Â
The key matchups will be how the Hereford defense can handle the Seminole speed and fast-paced tempo. Hereford will also look to score inside to establish themselves offensively and a key task for the Maidens will be staying out of foul trouble. Seeing the wrong defensive rotation and mismatch against the Maidens could see key players being in foul trouble.Â
Graham vs. Argyle; 3:30 p.m. at AledoÂ
It is unusual to see Argyle as a lower seed coming into the area round matchup against 5-4A district champions Graham, but Argyle is improving with each game under their belt and have a floor general with Bailey Timmons, who was recently tabbed to the McDonald’s All-American game nominee list. Graham are also young in their own way with Kate Gober being a key standout to watch in the guard position.Â
