The Texas Basketball Championships (TBC) state tournament will kick off on Thursday afternoon until Saturday with teams getting much-needed experience under their belt and give fans a preview to find out more about their favorite team or who will have a chance to shine in the upcoming season.

The state tournament is usually a good indicator of who will have a chance to make a deep playoff run or make a state tournament appearance.

Last year, Argyle was crowned the girls’ division one champions and successfully defended their 4A title while Grapeland won the division two bracket and made a run to the state final.

Expanded field

More teams will take part in the field, where 19 total teams will battle for their respective division state title. With more teams in the field means more games, which is always a plus for fans and players to gain more experience.

Key games to watch

Division I

Stephenville vs. Wichita Falls Hirschi – 8 p.m., Colleyville Heritage HS, Court 2

The Honeybees are well-branded with their tough defense and it will be tested by an athletic Hirschi team that will be one to watch this coming season.

Division II

Brock vs. Nocona – 3 p.m., Colleyville Heritage HS, Court 1

Nocona are sweeping the attention of the Wichita Falls area and rightfully so with Averee Kleinhans leading the offense. The Lady Eagles will look to challenge the reigning 8-3A champs with Olivia Lewis and Torrye Tyler returning behind a young roster.

Muenster vs. Brock – 6 p.m., Colleyville Heritage HS, Court 1

The Lady Hornets have won two state qualifying tournaments (SQT) in the build-up for the state tournament and look to knock off Brock, who have also gained key experience in their SQT campaign.

Teams to watch

Division I

Argyle

With Rhyle McKinney, Brooklyn Carl and Sydney Standifer in the roster, it is hard to stop the Lady Eagles with talent and an experience-laden team that is poised to defend their TBC state tournament crown.

Wichita Falls Hirschi

Hirschi put the state on notice with their district crown from a season ago behind the play of now junior Eternity Hull. Making a statement at the TBC state tournament would add on the intrigue factor for the Lady Huskies.

Division II

Muenster

As previously mentioned, the Lady Hornets are two-time SQT champions with now junior Annie Anderle and Kaley Berkley playing key roles for Muenster.

Lipan

Lipan is making the comeback to becoming their old selves with a TBC state tournament appearance. Madison Moudy will be a key player to watch for the Lady Indians.
