TBC Day 3 recap: Stephenville overcome tough Argyle side, Brock use defense in comeback against Muenster

0

The final day of the Texas Basketball summer state championships had the drama as everyone expected along with teams utilizing their defense in the late stages to overcome a deficit in their comeback or holding their respective lead.

Muenster used the long-range ball and defensive rebounds en route to their runner-up finish against Brock, who they have beat in group play. Muenster did hold a lead at one point and did look as if the Lady Hornets were going to hang on but a key foul and free three converted tied the game at 32 with 4:35 left in the game and gave the Lady Eagles the push they needed to in order to claim the division two summer state title.

The underrated part of Brock is the defense, which was their main key to give Brock extra possessions that led to points.

In the division one summer state title game, it was another rematch as Argyle faced off against Stephenville and last year’s reigning TBC summer state champs needed overtime to overcome an athletic and tall Wichita Falls Rider team in overtime after a Sydney Standifer jumper to win the game.

Stephenville used their defense and post play from Alee McClendon, who scored the eventual game-winner to beat Argyle.

A point of emphasis that may have swung the momentum was the first overtime period that there was only one possession in the first overtime period, in which Stephenville looked to get a basket to attempt to win the game.

Teams that impressed

Muenster

The size and the play of Martie McCoy turned heads for fans who were unsure about what Muenster looked like. With a team bringing the core of their team back from last season, the Lady Hornets will be a team to watch in Region II.

Wichita Falls Rider

The size and athleticism of ROHO was on full display along with the play of a young team that showed determination in getting to the basket. If you are looking for a sleeper pick in 4-5A, Rider may be a pick for you going into the regular season.
