The Texas Basketball Championships summer state tournament tips off today after being cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Games will be held in Grapevine High School with pool play being the main headline for today’s slate.
3A-1A Division
Haskell and Muenster will be a main game to watch in Pool B of the small school division with the game scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Muenster is no stranger to the summer stesate tournament stage and with a familiar name in Marty McCoy to lead the charge the Lady Hornets this year, high expectations will be expected again this year for a team that finished as state runner-ups in 2020.
Haskell are a regional power and are used to make deep playoff runs.
The group to watch
Group B will be the main group to watch, or with some labeling it, “the group odf death.”
Chireno, Irion County, Haskell, Muenster and Holliday are placed in the group and seeding will be a big key for the teams when bracket play comes around.
6A-4A Division
The big school division is set up for an all-around round robin as seven teams are set to compete.
For West Texas fans, Lubbock Cooper and Frenship headline the action as they tip off at 5 p.m.
Waco La Vega will be a team to watch in the pool, as they have turned heads throughout the summer with their offense, and the same will be expected in the regular season.
