TAPPS 4A-1A State Championships Rewind: Lubbock Christian, Houston Lutheran North claim titles in routs

Lubbock Christian 75, The Woodlands Legacy Prep 39

The Lady Eagles never looked back.

Being led by Abbie Crow’s 22 points, a game high, and the strong interior presence of Brooke Hooten, who finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals, the Lady Eagle scoring attack was dominant in a 75-39 victory, which wins the program’s 11th state title.

Skylar Simmons, who was named to the all-tournament team, chipped in 12 points in the victory.

The second quarter opened up the game for Lubbock Christian, using a 10-0 run to start the frame at the 5:22 mark as they extended their lead to 28-15.

The Lady Eagles ended the quarter on a 21-7 rout for a 43-22 lead heading into the halftime break as they dominated on the glass to bring a state title back to Lubbock.

Houston Lutheran North 62, McKinney Cornerstone Christian 34

The Lutheran North transition game was key.

The defense was a key part in the Lutheran North victory over McKinney Cornerstone Christian, forcing 24 turnovers, recording 17 steals, eight of which were from Kinsie Kim, for the program’s second state title.

Sophomore standout Dalanna Carter tallied a game high 23 points.

McKinney Cornerstone struggled from shooting from the field, going five-of-22 in the first half, with nerves playing a big part.

Lubbock Southcrest Christian 58, Shiner St. Paul 33

You live or die by the three.

For Southcrest Christian, it was another day at the office as Natalie Sadler tallied a game high 24 points as the Lady Warriors successfully won their fourth straight their TAPPS 2A state championship over Shiner St. Paul, 58-37.

The Lady Warriors, as a team, shot five-from-nine from behind the arc, which was a defining factor for Southcrest in their victory.

The explanation point for the Lady Warriors was ending the third quarter on a 6-0 run, led by a layup from a baseline inbound from Sadler to put the game out of reach.

The defense came up big for Cornerstone as they used a 11-4 fourth quarter to win their ninth state title for the program.

The young Cornerstone Christian team has lots of promise in the upcoming future, who was led by freshman Grace DeLaughter, who led the team in scoring with 13 points.

One senior departs the roster for next season as the Lady Lions will aim for repeating next season.
