Shot clock, division split to headline Legislative Council Meeting
The agenda for the summer meeting of the UIL Legislative Council is now out seeing a familiar item and a topic that has been gaining momentum over the past year.
A shot clock, making a fourth appearance on the docket, is on the agenda for the UIL to discuss but a much more bigger item could shake up the landscape of the basketball scene on both the boys and girls side.
The focal point will be the new division split for basketball, as everyone in the basketball realm will be eyeing.
If adopted, the landscape of the Lone Star State picture will change, including playoffs with the regional quarterfinal round being eliminated along with regional tournaments and potentially, the state tournament, according to TXHSGBB.com sources.
Regarding the shot clock, we will get to hear study results that may be one of the last appearances of a legislative council meeting, which could see Texas join the national ranks of adopting the new clock.
If adopted, the clock will be 35 seconds, per NFHS mandate that was passed back in 2021.
The UIL will also hear a report on the TABC summer showcase pilot program as part of old business that includes the shot clock.
Public written proposals include part-time employees to be a head coach of a team sport, allowing college students to volunteer coach, proposal to mandate statistics reporting through universal application and changing the run rule in softball.
