New Home @ Levelland: The Loboettes will be looking for a front face to the program as Makayla Escue, Natalie Velardez and Miranda Villegas graduated but return 5-5 junior Allie Latham, who saw some action on the court last season and will be playing a more active role to the team this year. New Home returns a solid amount to make noise from last season and will be knocking on the door to a regional title. The Lady Leopards post-play duo of Jacey Cathey and Kyley Gill during the summer has improved and will hold the key to pick up a win and would boast New Home up the regional rankings.
Idalou vs. Argyle in Olney: Both teams enter this game playing a similar style of basketball. Idalou return Shaylee Stovall, the leading scorer from last year, and sophomore Taylor Houston, both of who were starters last year. Argyle returns four starters and what else more can be said about the Lady Eagles, the five consecutive state title winners. 6-1 senior forward Kiley Lavelle returns but may not play due to her presence in the volleyball team in the playoffs but will be a key piece in the interior offensive and defensive plans for Argyle this season. Rhyle McKinney has won every accolade there is in basketball as the state tournament MVP will lead the offensive charge that also brings in Clemson verbal commit, Sydney Standifer, who was sidelined with an ACL injury. Brooklyn Carl was the assist leader in the Metroplex and returns for another season as she has the awareness to find the open girl on the floor. The big question coming in will be how Idalou can defend the interior to claim defensive board, limiting Argyle’s chances and closing down shooters.
Canton @ Mount Vernon: The Lady Eagles are looking to replace four talented seniors that took them to the regional final last season and return two starters that saw some minutes last year in senior Olivia Norrell and junior Kayden Prox. Ty’Raven Linwood returns for her senior season at Mount Vernon and will lead a team that is slightly young after graduating Annie Coffey and Samantha Lowry. Both teams will look to get their footing early, but which team can take a step closer in finding a groove early?
Brownsboro @ Grapeland: There is plenty of buzz going on in Brownsboro and rightfully so as they return all five starters with Kentoya Woods leading the way. Sophomore Paris Miller will also be a key player to watch and has the potential to be a key push on the scoresheet for the Lady Bears if Woods has an off night. Grapeland brings in Robert Payne as the new coach and immediately brings in daughter Jessie Payne to the team as 5-11 junior Tiera Jones returns. The strength of the team may fall back on the guard and athleticism of the Sandiettes but the defense will be a key to pick up a win.
