After a strong season for the Lady Falcons that saw a deep playoff run, Richmond Foster will be picking up a key transfer outside the state.

Kaiya Wynn, a five-star recruit from Ensworth (TN), also a Tennessee verbal pledge, will be coming into Richmond Foster, first reported by Fort Bend Herald’s Ryan Dunsmore.

As reported in the Tennessean, Wynn’s parents will be coming to the Houston area as her mother has picked up a job opportunity in the Houston area.

“It’s huge because we are losing a four-year starter,” Richmond Foster head coach Saavitra Williams-Smith said. “We have a pretty solid team but were missing a piece. Kaiya comes in and replaces what we lost and then some, that piece that we have been missing. Her coming into the program and being able to get out of round three of the playoffs.”

The 6-0 guard averaged 15.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game this past season that saw a undefeated state title for Ensworth.

“I know what the other girls are capable of,” Williams-Smith said. “When you have a player of Kaiya’s caliber on the floor, mentally, having to face her, it brings another mental aspect. She brings us that mental advantage.”

Richmond Foster return four starters as they look to build off a 23-13 season that saw them advance to the regional quarterfinals.

“We have that three-headed monster in the backcourt now,” Williams-Smith added. “We have three solid ball handlers. It makes it hard to throw the jump defenses at us and the other players that might not be comfortable handling the basketball in that type of pressure, it alleviates that aspect for us and adds another problem for the other teams.”
