Leta Andrews named as finalist in Basketball Hall of Fame

Leta Andrews, the all-time leader in wins in the state and nationally in both male and female coaches, was named to as one of 14 finalists in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA on Tuesday afternoon.

Andrews, formerly coachined at Tolar, Gustine, Comanche, Granbury and Corpus Christi Calallen as she won a total of 1,416 games with 15 state tournament appearances and a state title in 1990 with the Lady Cats of Calallen.

Andrews has also served as the head coach of the West team during the McDonald’s All-American game in 2004 and again in the Gatorade All-America game in 2009. She also garnered many awards, including the 2007 NHSCA National Coach of the Year, a recepient of the Morgan Wooten Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007, an induction in the High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
