With the LCU team camp concluding, we evaluate the tournament field with standout teams from the weekend that caught our eye throughout the three day camp.

Next man up in Shallowater

Avery Velasquez put in a solid weekend for the Fillies as the hot hands for Shallowater will be spotlighted on Bree Brattain. Velasquez has improved and is not afraid of being aggressive on drives to the basket and that could be an extra component for a well-coached squad heading into the 2021-22 season.

The race for 29-2A

Despite the coaching changes for the district powers in San Saba & Mason, Harper and Goldthwaite showed they are in the hunt for more than playoff spots this weekend. Harper have a dangerous inside-out game as Goldthwaite are putting the pieces together for a playoff push that will be one to keep tabs on for sure when the season comes along.

Fair game

With five starters out this weekend, Amarillo did impress with young players playing well and were competitive throughout the weekend. The starting lineup so far for the Lady Sandies is not set in stone but there are spots that are fair game in the lineup that will give players extra exposure for players that do end up winning out on a starting spot that used the team camp as a springboard to earn their spot.

Brownfield to repeat?

It may be too early to project state champions but so far, with the core of the lineup returning, the Lady Cubs are looking to be an early favorite for a repeat in defending their state title. Being strong on the boards and with the stellar play of Gabi Fields, there is no reason not to believe that Brownfield will be in the conversation to be in San Antonio.

Death, taxes, Canyon

Canyon, despite being young in a few areas, look to be just fine as Taylor Thomas led the Lady Eagles to victory in the championship game against Brownfield with being fouled with .3 seconds left. The length and the defense will be giving Canyon the edge in the one-on-one matchups.
