Well, this year, it’s a different song as North Carolina signee and McDonald’s All American Deja Kelly tallied 29 points in the victory for a team that is poised to return to the state tournament.

North Shore pick up key win: Facing a tough team in Pasadena Dobie, North Shore used the defense to earn a 50-40 victory to advance to the area round. Senior Makayla Patterson led the team in scoring with 20 points.

Cy Creek open postseason campaign: The Cy Creek Lady Cougars are undefeated for a reason with solid play behind junior standouts Kyndall Hunter and Rori Harmon, who surpassed the 2,000 career point mark in the victory as Cy Creek have their eyes on the prize this season.

Highland Park open with a convincing victory: The Lady Scots are a team that no one is talking about in the top half of the 5A Region II bracket as they cruised to a 75-18 victory over Dallas Samuell. The pieces are in place for Highland Park to make a run but will have to take on a well-coached Frisco Lone Star team in the area round.

Boerne Champion survive: 26-5A has been a gauntlet if you look at the top half of the district. The district flexed it’s muscles last night with three of the four teams winning, including the Lady Chargers, who came back to get the victory 39-38 over Dripping Springs, after facing a 30-23 deficit after the third quarter. The win marks their first playoff win in nine years for the program as they survive and advance to the weekend.

Idalou flex muscle: The Lady Cats are in a favorable side of the bracket for them to make a run and in order to do just that, they had to get past a tough Canadian side. The defense was a primary key that led the offense to do it’s job en route to a 69-37 victory.

Brownsville Jubilee continue to impress: In their first year in UIL play, the Lady Vikings of Brownsville Jubilee continue to impress with each game as they topped San Diego, 63-32, to advance to the weekend. This is a roster with no seniors and is junior laden and will be a 3A Region IV threat for seasons to come.

A top five match-up is set: With Vega and Panhandle topping their respective opponents in Hale Center and Sunray in the bi-district round, the top five teams will face off on Thursday, 6 p.m., in Randall High School in southern Amarillo. All eyes in the state in 2A will have some way to keep track of the game but the winner is the region front-runner for a potential regional title and state tournament berth.
