The Metroplex saw its fair-share of former high school standouts as three former players were picked in the annual WNBA Draft.

Former Flower Mound standout and Baylor graduate Lauren Cox will see her professional career start with the Indiana Fever, where she was the third pick of the draft.

Mansfield Timberview alum Chennedy Carter soon followed, picked fourth in the draft and is heading to the Atlanta Dream. Carter averaged 21.3 points for Texas A&M this season and is the second all-time leading scorer for the Aggies.

Brittany Brewer posted a solid season for the Lady Raiders and was drafted in the second round by the Atlanta Dream. Cedar Hill product Joyner Holmes followed in the draft, picked 19th by the Seattle Storm.

Erica Ogwumike, the former Cy Woods standout, was picked 26th overall by the New York Liberty, but the pick was traded to the Minnesota Lynx. Ogwumike is the third sister to be in the WNBA as older sibilings, Chiney and Nneka, who won state at Cy-Fair and have their high school jerseys retired, as they play with the Los Angeles Sparks.

Longtime Central Texas high school girls basketball fans will remember the name Juice Landrum as she was a part of the La Vega state title winners back in 2014 and Japreece Dean, former Vista Ridge standout that was a part of the 2015 state tournament team. Both Landrum and Dean were picked 30th and 35th respectively.
