With realignment being released last month, girls basketball was still in-season.

Now, we take a look in-depth at realignment, starting in Class 2A with the winners of who had a favorable draw and which metro areas won out in the hardwood side of realignment.

Winners

1A Promotions

The 1A promotions that include Ropes, New Home, Lipan and La Poynor have the potential to make noise right out of the gate heading into the 2020-21 season. La Poynor are familiar to the 2A scene, where they advanced to the state title game.

Region II

All eyes were on the name “Martin’s Mill” on the Region II alignment and, were placed in Region III, in their more geographically-local move to play in the Athens area and areas south.

Now, the Region II door is open for teams like Muenster, Lipan, Cisco, Santo and Archer City to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Cisco

As mentioned above, the Loboes may have one of the more favorable district draws as they are placed in 10-2A with Big Country powers Haskell, and other teams like Anson, a 3A drop-down, Albany and Hamlin, another 1A promotion. Stamford have been also a program on the rise, posting a regional tournament appearance this past seaosn.

Losers

Goldthwaite

The travel shoes will have to be on as they make to move to Region IV, placed with regional power Mason, San Saba, and Harper, a two-hour drive that will be made.

Long drives do add an extra aspect to district games that is usually overshadowed. With a 3A drop-down in Johnson City, the district will be a tough one every game night.

Tolar

Another 3A drop-down, the Lady Rattlers did not have a favorable district draw, with Lipan, a 1A promotion and Santo, a well-coached team. Hico and Pooville are also on the rise and add depth to a district that will be tough to break through in playoff spots.

Permian Basin

Realignment was not kind to Midland/Odessa area teams, being grouped with Christoval and Eldorado in 7-2A. Wink was the only team in the Permian Basin to advance deep in the playoffs and will be a team to watch this coming season.
