UIL Legislative Council scheduled to meet for fall meeting

The UIL Legislative Council is scheduled to meet on October 26 with a tame agenda as no major items of discussion involving basketball and softball.

In the Athletics Standing Committee old business meeting agenda, the committee will hear items on allowing college students to coach if they are in an approved program, a report from the medical advisory committee meeting from September 14.

Additionally, the committee will hear a report to add girls’ flag football, an optional spring training period for water polo and a report regarding the use of noisemakers in baseball & softball. 

New proposals submitted by the public include allowing districts to utilize non-chapter officials for regular season varsity contests, allowing 1A & 2A schools to utilize non-chapter basketball officials for regular season varsity contests, adding pickleball as a sanctioned sport, a proposal to cap the third set in sub-varsity volleyball games and a proposal to add lacrosse as a sanctioned sport. 

Other proposals that were referred from the athletic committee from public hearing is removing the pilot program status for UIL approved state association all-star games, removing the pilot status for 1A & 2A sixth grade participation and a proposal to require DECs to include all schools in the district schedule, unless unanimously agreed otherwise. 

In the policy standing committee meeting agenda, key line items written from the public include allowing homeschool participation and excluding students on J-1 visas from reclassification and realignment calculations.

All proposals that are heard in standing committees will be voted on the morning of October 27.
