TXHSGBB Realignment Landing Page

With realignment being released last month, girls basketball was still in-season.

We take a look at the top five toughest districts and will have a chance for all four teams that qualify for playoffs to set up a regional quarterfinal clash.

6A

11-6A

As mentioned in our winners and losers story, 11-6A is now the district of doom, with both Duncanville and De Soto in the district along with Hewitt-Midway, Cedar Hill and a traditionally-strong Waxahachie team who will be tough. Do not sleep on Mansfield or Lake Ridge, who can compete with the third and fourth place teams. Of course, all eyes will be on the top two that will be grabbing statewide headlines once more.

21-6A

With Summer Creek and Atascocita headlining the district, other teams like North Shore, West Brook and Humble are also teams that can complete with the headliners. Kingwood are also a team to not to take lightly in one of Houston’s toughest districts.

5-6A

The new district clash between Allen and Denton Guyer will be intriguing, as the Lady Wildcats return Bella Earle and Evie Goetz. Braswell posted a solid year, going 26-7 this past season.

After the state run McKinney turned in, it would come no surprise to see the Lady Lions in the district title race with Trinity White returning and will be playing a leadership role.

Little Elm and Prosper will also be playoff contenders as we saw a much improved Lady Lobo team make a playoff appearance.

27-6A

The district of doom in San Antonio retains its status once again as Converse Judson and Steele headline the group. Smithson Valley also put in a good year as they return Trinity Garrett.

San Antonio Wagner were one of the more offensively efficient teams in the Alamo City and could make a statement as they receive a promotion up to 6A.

10-6A

On paper, two things standout in this district, athleticism and defense. Any team that possesses both of these two things have a good shot of winning the district.

Skyline possess the athleticism and, pending their playoff draw, could be a wildcard in their respective quadrant that they are in.

Horn are also an athletic team that can run the floor well and are well-coached by Whitney Long. Jasmine Shavers returns and some could tab the Lady Jaguars be a sleeper pick in the region.

Aaliyah Morgan and Alyssa Thorne will graduate for Tyler Lee, who also put in a good season.

One of the more interesting races will be the final playoff spot, where the winner could potentially see Sachse in the bi-district round.

5A

3-5A

Basketball in Amarillo is one of the toughest cities to play in and this district shows that every night will be a battle from top to bottom. Amarillo High may lose one of the highly-touted recruits in the Panhandle but return a supporting cast that is led by Rachel Haase.

Palo Duro will still have Lashonda Stiger on the team, who was a scoring threat for the Lady Dons, and will be a team threatening to finish in at least the top four and may set a challenge up for the district title.

Randall and Plainview will also set up tight challenges for all teams in the district and add to the competitive scene.

19-5A

Let’s all agree on one thing, the Brazos Valley had it’s best year this past season.

19-5A every game night was a battle and it showed in the standings with a tight battle for the district crown and Rudder, who was in the TXHSGBB top 10 at one point in the season, was a very dangerous four seed to watch for.

This season, it is the same eight teams.

The Lady Cougars will lose the leadership of Mia Rivers but return Na’layjah Johnson as they look to defend their district title with a young team.

Rudder will lose size in Deondra Young but return the duo of Tianna Mathis and Keaundra Kelly with hopes the Lady Rangers finish inside the top three.

Magnolia West saw a 30-win season in the first season under Darcie Moore, who came in from Goose Creek Memorial, and look to do the same with Kamari Portalis looking to bring the leadership next season.

26-5A

With Boerne Champion and Kerrville Tivy headlining Region IV, their district may have picked up competitively.

6A drop down Kyle Lehman comes and and look to come out of the blocks as a sleeper for the playoff spots and first-year program Buda Johnson also is grouped with the Region IV powers.

Boerne Champion was inside the top 10 in some polls last year and were senior-laden this past season. This coming season will be a youth movement as they come off a deep playoff run.

Dripping Springs, who won 25-5A last season and Comal Canyon, a team that is starting to regularly be in the playoff hunt, will add depth to a district that has the potential to see four teams in the regional quarterfinals.

9-5A

Frisco ISD year-in and year-out puts in tough competition every game day.

Liberty ran an impressive district slate en route to winning their first state title in school history as Memorial, Lone Star and Centennial saw playoff appearances.

Reedy put in a good season as well and added depth.

Keep an eye out for this district, as mentioned in the winners and losers piece, that Emerson HS is currently being built and it could result the use of zones being put in place for potentially next alignment.

24-5A

From top to bottom, this district featured land mines all over that include Angleton, Lamar Consolidated and Kempner that can make the playoff race go crazy.

Hightower will be young but will have athletes that can run the floor well and can shoot the ball and Foster return one of their leading scorers in Alicia Blanton.

Every game will be a battle to get a victory and one game could make the difference in making the playoffs and sitting at home.
