In a region that is headlined by the West Texas talent, the Metroplex half of the region is cutting the gap in a sizable manner each and every year.
Lake Dallas broke out on the scene, where they won the Caprock Classic in Lubbock post-Christmas and went on to advance to the regional final in a historic run for the Lady Falcons.
Amarillo High advanced to the state tournament for another successful year and look to continue their winning ways as they will look to build with a solid core returning and a promising young group coming up for the team.
Lubbock Cooper has been turning heads in the summer, topping cross-town rival Frenship, 86-43, in the Texas Basketball Championships 6A-4A summer state title game and have no signs of rebuilding as they lose key pieces but maintain the guard depth of Carisa Cortez and Calyn Dallas being the forefront of the playmakers on the floor.
The Metroplex half does see a new addition in Argyle, a state power that everyone has eyes on as they look to make waves in a 5A region that has the Lady Eagles returning a solid part of their team, including Madi Lumsden, Gabby Campbell and Samantha Bacon.’
Mansfield Timberview are another team to watch, with a solid young group coming in as Tamaiya Mims and Kamryn Wilson and Kyla Smith will be the key pieces in the lineup. Rival Legacy will be contending for a district title as pure-scoring guard Savannah Catalon returns for her senior season.
El Paso has been improving each year as Chapin and Burges will be the main teams to watch in the Sun City.
Plainview will be a sleeper pick in the western half, with their speed that they bring to the floor and the play of Mady Williams.
Out east, Midlothian will add depth to a tough 8-5A with a senior-laden squad that will look to contend for a top seed in the district and pave a way for a deep run in the postseason.

Three tough districts
3-5A
This five-team district is no slouch, featuring perennial power Amarillo High, Plainview and Tascosa. Paso Duro and Caprock will be having tough battles for the final playoff spot in what will be a meat-grinder of a district that will see all four teams well-tested prior to their respective playoff run.
4-5A
If 3-5A was tough, the neighbor 4-5A district is just as tough. Lubbock Cooper and Monterey feature in this district along with sleeper Lubbock Coronado, who return four starters in the rotation that features 6-1 forward Kya Smith. Jannae’Leigh Cooper and Jazlyn Braithwaite will be the key guards for a team that will look to make a splash in the regional race.
8-5A
Mansfield ISD features a handful of quality teams that is headlined by Timberview, an upcoming team in Legacy and an always well-coached team in Summit, who always find a way to get in the postseason. Now, with the addition of both Midlothian and a 4A promotion of Midlothian Heritage, the district race will be as tough as ever when it comes to the postseason race that will definitely have fans watching.
