With realignment being released last month, girls basketball was still in-season.
Now, we take a look in-depth at realignment, starting in Class 5A with the winners of who had a favorable draw and which metro areas won out in the hardwood side of realignment.
New schools: Prosper Rock Hill, Austin LASA, Buda Johnson
Note: Saginaw has moved to 7-5A after winning an appeal with the UIL.
Winners
Amarillo Tascosa
The Lady Rebels may have picked up a favorable district draw as the 6A drop-downs pick up other Amarillo ISD teams including Amarillo High, Caprock and Palo Duro. Randall and Plainview are also a part of a district that will be tough from top to bottom.
Liberty Hill
Despite picking up Cedar Park and Georgetown, it’s a manageable district for the perennial power Lady Panther program that looks to make noise in their new classification. As always, expect high expectations from head coach Chris Lange for the 2020-21 season.
Corpus Christi ISD
With Flour Bluff and Tuloso-Midway back in the original district, the Corpus Christi ISD teams are back in one district with Victoria ISD in 29-5A after being grouped with Laredo Cigarroa and Laredo Martin this past two seasons to relieve them of travel and staying local.
Losers
Prosper Rock Hill
The new Prosper ISD team are grouped in a tough district with The Colony, McKinney North, Wylie East, and Denison being the early candidates for the playoffs. Lucas Lovejoy are also a team that should not be taken lightly in the district as well.
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD
All teams from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch shchool district have been on the rise, including Newman Smith, who posted a solid season with a playoff appearance.
The downside? A district that might not be as tough that include Dallas ISD teams that include W.T. White, a 6A drop-down.
Kyle Lehman
Dropping down to 5A was not kind for Lehman, being grouped with the two teams that have headlined Region IV in Kerrville Tivy and San Antonio Veteran’s Memorial.
Boerne Champion also put in a solid season as well alongside Dripping Springs, who won 25-5A this past season.
Bonus Point
Of note, be on the lookout for potentially the split of Frisco ISD with zones. A new high school is being built, Emerson High School, and will be the 11th school in the district and we could see them in UIL play as soon as the 2021-22 season.
9-5A, which contains all the Frisco ISD high schools, is currently 10 teams which include the state champions in Liberty.
The last time we saw zones was in 30-5A in 2016-18, with all Corpus Christi ISD being paired with Victoria ISD in what was a 11-team district that had a north and south division.
