With realignment being released last month, girls basketball was still in-season.

Now, we take a look in-depth at realignment, starting in Class 4A with the winners of who had a favorable draw and which metro areas won out in the hardwood side of realignment.

New Schools: El Paso Young Women’s STEAM, Lake Belton, Comal Davenport

Winners

Tuloso-Midway

Dropping down to 5A may have gave the Cherokees a confidence boost in all sports in the 2020-21 school year. Being paired with other 5A drop-downs including Alice and Calallen, it’s a favorable draw for T-M in terms of the district race and could see a deep run in the postseason.

El Paso Riverside

Another 5A drop-down may have received another manageable draw in their respective district. Despite facing off against the district power in San Elizario, it will be a young team that will see a bit of a facelift come next season.

Vidor

There has not been much to cheer about in Vidor on the girls basketball scene with their last playoff appearance coming in 2013 and only four playoff appearances to their name. The district loses Region III power Hardin-Jefferson but Orangefield are back up in 4A as Lumberton and West Orange-Stark will be the teams to watch in the district.

Losers

Levelland

If you compared the 2018-20 and 2020-22 district draw, it would be clear that Levelland would pick this past season, which included Canyon and Hereford.

The one aspect that will not change is travel.

The Loboettes pick up Lake View, Snyder, Sweetwater, Big Spring and Estacado in their new district. It many not be as competitive as the previous draw but the Loboettes look to take advantange despite having a young roster that will help them gain varsity level experience.

Zapata

Out of all the scenarios that was drawn up, heading to Corpus probably was not one of them.

The Hawks will be traveling across the western edge of South Texas to the east, which will be about two and half hours according to Google Maps for district games.

With these trips, district games will be tougher for Zapata during the week if they have to travel to Corpus on Tuesdays.

Devine

The Arabians are sent back to San Antonio, with the likes of Somerset, Fox Tech, who drop down from 5A, Brooks Acadey, and Young Women’s Leadership Academy.

Somerset have improved in a tough district this past season in what could be a two-horse district title race but the district as a whole is not as tough as Devine’s previous district with Crystal City, Carrizo Springs, Hondo and Pearsall.
