Shallowater 61, Schulenburg 26

Shallowater may have turned heads from across the state.

The Fillies stormed to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter and didn’t let their foot off the gas en route to a 61-26 victory over Schulenburg.

The Fillies were led by sophomore standout Bree Brattain, who led all scorers with 21 points, collected 12 rebounds and shot seven-of-19 from the field.

The Fillies, who came from one of the toughest districts in 3A, advance to their first state title game since 2015 and look to return a state title to the South Plains.

Schulenburg struggled getting in the interior, which has been beneficial for the Lady Horns throughout the season.

The Lady Horns finished the game shooting 22 percent from the field.

Woodville 62, Winnsboro 43

It was a tale of two halves but Woodville fought back, using a big third quarter to pick up a come-from behind victory.

In the stretch of the comeback, four different Lady Eagles in Kayla Merchant, Jordyn Beaty, who recorded a double-double (11/20) in the victory, Telia Jackson and Jayda Argumon all were key in the stretch that saw Woodville see them in front.

For Winnsboro, freshman post Faith Acker was defensively tough on guarding Beaty in the first half, and also finished the game with a double-double, with a team high 15 points and tallied 13 rebounds.

Woodville will face Shallowater at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the state championship game that will feature post battles and defensively sound teams.
