TXHSGBB Realignment Landing Page
With realignment being released last month, girls basketball was still in-season.
Now, we take a look in-depth at realignment, starting in Class 3A with the winners of who had a favorable draw and which metro areas won out in the hardwood side of realignment.
New schools: Odessa Compass Academy, UME Prepatory Academy, Donna IDEA College Prep
Winners
Lexington
The Lady Eagles return one of the more underrated talents in Central Texas with Ashunti Cooper as Lexington will have one of the more explosive offenses. The district draw is manageable for a deep run but will be challenged by Little River Academy for the crown.
Dalhart
The Lady Wolves have the potential to make their breakthrough in the region in a tough but manageable district that includes Canadian, Spearman and Bushland, who all posted postseason appearances. The main key will be staying healthy and squad depth.Â
Llano
The Lady Jackets of Llano have not been in the postseason since 2010. Last year was as close to the postseason feel they received with their play-in game with Canyon Lake, where they lost in order to get to the playoffs.Â
There is a feeling in the community that Llano has the potential to make the postseason now with their district draw, which is a favorable one. Could this coming season end the 10-year postseason drought of a program that has seen 13 total playoff appearances in their history?Â
Losers
Riesel
Moving up to 3A was tough enough but Riesel picked up a tough district draw that featured 4A drop-down Lorena, West and Whitney, who all will be in the running for the district crown. Riesel will also be under new leadership, as now former head coach Taylor Hill departs to Lake Belton.
9-3A Public Schools
Charter schools in the Metroplex are a draw that is usually one that is less favored by coaches but Grandview, Maypearl and Keene pick up Dallas charter schools that include Gateway, A+ Academy, Uplift Hampton and UME Prepatory Academy. Dallas Madison and Life Oak Cliff are also public schools, but the district will not be as tough and scores in the district could be perceived to be blowouts.
Region III
How does the 4A state title game tie into 3A Region III? Well, Fairfield have dropped down to 3A and are placed in Region III, where they have all of the state on notice in how they topped the five-time defending state champions in Argyle. They will look to make noise once again in Region III, this time in 3A.
