TXHSGBB Realignment Landing Page

With realignment being released last month, girls basketball was still in-season.

Now, we take a look in-depth at realignment, looking at the top five districts in 2A and 1A.

2A

19-2A

With Martin’s Mill moving to Region III, the depth of the East Texas region is deeper in terms of state title contenders. Kerens and La Poynor also are in the district and have seen successful seasons this past year. Cayuga and 3A drop-down Frankston are also teams to watch in the district.

10-2A

With Cisco dropping down to 2A, it bumped Big Country power Haskell into Region II along with Albany, Stamford, a regional tournament team a season ago, 3A drop-downs in Anson, 1A promotion in Hamlin and Hawley, who will add depth to an already stacked district.

23-2A

Despite losing Woden, the district is at least a four deep district with Timpson being an early front runner. Expect the top four teams to be frequently shuffled over the course of the season for seeding.

29-2A

Region IV has not seen a deep district but this year will be different with all eyes on 29-2A. The usual suspects with Mason, San Saba and Harper are in the district along with 3A drop-down Johnson City and a tough side in Goldthwaite.

2-2A

Basketball in the Panhandle is tough, especially in 2A. Panhandle and Wellington will headline 2-2A early. Clarendon posted a deep playoff run to the regional quarterfinals. Memphis and Shamrock will add depth and are on the rise that could add excitement in the playoff race.

1A

2-1A

This district has the potential of being a five-deep district with Claude, Groom, Silverton, Valley and White Deer being neck-and-neck for three playoff spots. With Claude returning a solid amount of underclassmen that saw a regional tournament run, they are one of the front-runners of a staste tournament team.

31-1A

A traditionally strong district that includes a well-coached Nueces Canyon team, a tough D’Hanis squad, Knippa, Leakey and Rocksprings will be the main focus of the race for the top three.

11-1A

A district that has been known to put regional tournament teams year in and out with Blackwell being the most recent this past season. The district is also a who’s-who of the coaching ranks in 1A and all of the game nights in the district will be tough to go through.

13-1A

Big County girls’ basketball is on the come-up, if it hasn’t been already and this district shows tradition and talent along with upcoming programs. Eula has been a regionally strong team and saw their first regional title game since 2016 along with another regionally strong team in May. Cross Plains have recently made a big hire in Dustin Bates from Buffalo and has been in back-to-back state tournaments with Slocum. Baird are also on the rise in the area and will add depth to the district.

23-1A

With the departure of Lipan, surely Dodd City will be the favorite in Region III? The district does gain a 2A drop-down in Campbell and add depth in the district. Miller Grove, Ector and Fruitvale are also expecting to be in the playoff race in the district that could see lots of movement in the second and third playoff spots.
