Broaddus 52, Eula 42
Two trips to San Antonio for Broaddus has been a success.
Getting behind the size in the paint with 20 interior points scored, Broaddus rode to a successful title defense with a 52-42 victory over Eula in a rematch of last year’s state championship game.
Jaila Mitchell, who finished with a double-double by record with 12 points and 12 rebounds, picked up the MVP award with her effors.
Eula, despite looking strong early, fall short of their bid of a state title, finish the year with a 36-3 record.
The Lady Pirates used a 10-0 run in the middle of the first quarter to run out to an early 10-4 lead.
From then, it was hard to find a basket.
The Lady Pirates struggled to find a basket in the third quarter, shooting three-for-11 and one-for-five from behind the arc.
Nazareth 43, Saltillo 28
It’s a feeling that never gets old for Nazareth.
Utilizing their length defensively, Nazareth forced 10 turnovers and scored 10 points off turnovers along with out-rebounding Saltillo, 15-9 in the first half, to claim a 43-28 victory over the Lady Lions to win state title number 27.
The newly acquired state title moves Nazareth to a 27-4 record in state championship, including setting a new national public school record for most state titled tied to a program.
Kambri Cleavinger, who garnered MVP honors, led all scorers with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Saltillo, who finished the season with a 34-7 record, were led by Alana Britain scoring 10 points, four rebounds and going six-for-seven from the free throw line.
